39. Jarvie, August, Sr.


August JARVIE(1-2)  aka Rannanjarvi(10) was born on 6 December 1873 in Finland.(3-4)  He immigrated in 1894 and was naturalized in 1903.(5-7,10)   August married Liisa Maki about 1894, probably in Finland, where their first two children were born.(5-7)  Liisa, also known as Elizabeth and Lizzie, immigrated with her two children in August 1899 arriving in Boston, Massachusetts with their final destination being Diamondville, Wyoming where August was living.(10)  According to the passenger records, August had been in the United States for 2 ½ years by 1899.(10)  August appeared in the census in 1900 in Lincoln County, Wyoming.(7)  August, his wife and three children, appeared in the census in 1910 in Frontier, Uinta, Wyoming where he was working as a coal miner.(8)  August filled out draft registration cards on 12 September 1918 in Lincoln County, Wyoming where he reported he was of medium height, slender build and had light blue eyes and light hair.(9) He was working for the Kemmerer Coal Company as a coal miner.(9)  He appeared in the census in 1920 in Frontier with his wife and five children.(6) He died in a gas explosion in Frontier No. 1 coal mine on 14 August 1923 at the age of 49 in Frontier, Lincoln, Wyoming.(3)  August was buried on 17 August 1923 in Kemmerer.(1,3)
